نجت أصوات المجمع الانتخابي التي أرسلتها عموم الولايات إلى مبنى الكونغرس الأميركي من تخريب أنصار الرئيس دونالد ترامب الذين اقتحموا مبنى الكونغرس، الأربعاء، احتجاجا على نتائج الانتخابات الرئاسية.

وكشف السناتور الديمقراطي عن ولاية أوريغون، جيف ميركلي، مساء الأربعاء أنه تم إنقاذ أصوات الهيئة الانتخابية من قاعة مجلس الشيوخ، قبل أن يتمكن المتظاهرون من الوصول إليها.

وكتب ميركلي على تويتر: “لو لم يمسك بها موظفونا المقتدرون، لكان الغوغاء يحرقونها”.

اقتحام الكونغرس

واقتحم المئات من أنصار ترامب الحواجز الأمنية لمبنى الكونغرس في العاصمة واشنطن واشتبك بعضهم مع عناصر الشرطة داخل المبنى، قبل أن ينجح بعضهم في دخول قاعة مجلس الشيوخ واحتلالها.

وجاء الاقتحام بالتزامن مع جلسة مشتركة للشيوخ والنواب، للمصادقة على فوز الرئيس الأميركي المنتخب جو بايدن.
