قال رئيس وزراء بريطانيا بوريس جونسون الأحد إن أقرب وأهم حليف لبلاده هو الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية التي يمكنها التوافق مع لندن حول تفاهمات تجارية رغم صلابة المفاوض الأمريكي.

وقال جونسون “فيما يتعلق باتفاق التجارة مع الولايات المتحدة، أنا تلميذ نجيب للسياسة التجارية الأمريكية وهم مفاوضون أقوياء”.

وأضاف جونسون، الذي لم يتوصل حتى الآن إلى اتفاق مع الاتحاد الأوروبي بشأن مستقبل العلاقات بين الطرفين مع تبادل متواصل للاتهامات بالتصلب بينهما، “لم أصدق قط أن هذا (التفاهم مع واشنطن) أمر يمكن أن يكون مهمة سهلة تماما في عهد أي إدارة أمريكية”. واختتم كلامه متفائلا بالقول “أعتقد أن هناك فرصة طيبة لأن نفعل شيئا”.

ويعتقد، في الأوساط الخبيرة، أن رئيس الوزراء البريطاني تعمد المراوغة والمماطلة خلال الأشهر الأخيرة مع الاتحاد الأوروبي لربح الوقت ريثما تمر الانتخابات الأمريكية حتى يتبين له إن كان قادرا على الاستغناء عن التفاهم مع بروكسل والتوجه غربا نحو واشنطن.
