الجيريان اكسبرس: ستتحول ولاية ألاسكا إلى قاعدة، تضم أكبر عدد من طائرات الجيل الخامس في العالم، وذلك بعد نشر مقاتلات إضافية من طراز “إف-35” هناك .

وقال السيناتور الجمهوري دان سوليفان (من ألاسكا)، متحدثا في ندوة بالفيديو نظمها مركز وودرو ويلسون للأبحاث في واشنطن: “نقوم في الوقت الحالي، بتعزيز قدراتنا المتعلقة بمقاتلات إف-35. ومع الأخذ بالاعتبار أن مقاتلات إف-22 منتشرة في قاعدة ايلمندروف-ريتشدسون، سيتم نشر مقاتلات إف-35 في قاعدة إيلسون، وبالتالي سيكون لدينا في ألاسكا أكثر من 100 مقاتلة من الجيل الخامس، أكثر من مائة”.

وأضاف: “لا يوجد في أي مكان آخر بالعالم، مثل هذا العدد من مقاتلات الجيل الخامس”.

في عام 2016، أعلن البنتاغون عن نقل مقاتلات إضافية من طراز “إف-35” إلى ألاسكا. وبحلول ديسمبر 2021، من المخطط نشر سربين من هذه الطائرات أي 54 طائرة.
