قال مسؤولو الصحة في أستراليا إن البلاد لم تسجل أي إصابات يومية جديدة بفيروس كورونا المستجد، الأحد، لأول مرة منذ ما يقرب من 5 أشهر، مما يمهد الطريق لمزيد من تخفيف القيود المتعلقة بالتباعد الاجتماعي.

ولم تسجل ولاية فيكتوريا، وهي واحدة من بؤر تفشي الفيروس في أستراليا وشهدت أكثر من 90 بالمئة من الوفيات المرتبطة بالفيروس في البلاد، أي إصابات أو وفيات يومية جديدة لليوم الثاني على التوالي.

وقال وزير الصحة، غريغ هانت، إنه ومع عدم تسجيل إصابات جديدة بمرض كوفيد-19 في بقية أنحاء البلاد، فإن أستراليا تشهد أول يوم لها دون انتقال لعدوى المرض منذ التاسع من يونيو، ووجه الشكر عبر تويتر إلى الطواقم الطبية والشعب الأسترالي عموما.

ولم تسجل أستراليا منذ بدء الجائحة سوى ما يزيد قليلا على 27500 إصابة، ويرجع الفضل في ذلك إلى مسارعتها بإغلاق الحدود الدولية وفرض قيود التباعد الاجتماعي وإجراء الفحوص وتعقب المخالطين على نطاق واسع.
