أعلنت رئيسة مجلس النواب الأمريكي نانسي بيلوسي، أنها تشعر بثقة في أن الديمقراطيين سيحتفظون بالأكثرية في مجلس النواب في هذه الانتخابات، مشيرة الى أنها تستعد للفوز بانتخابات عام 2022.

وقالت بيلوسي لوكالة “أسوشييتد برس”: “هذا العام، أحاول الفوز مسبقا قبل عامين. إذا هيمنا في هذه الانتخابات، فبمجرد أن نبدأ العام المقبل، سيرى الناس قوتنا”.

وعن انتخابات 3 نوفمبر قالت: “نعتزم عقد مجلس النواب وزيادة أعدادنا والمساهمة في الفوز بمجلس الشيوخ والرئاسة”.

يعمل الديمقراطيون على إعادة انتخاب حوالي 40 عضوا جديدا في مجلس النواب تم انتخابهم في منتصف المدة لعام 2018 للفوز بالأغلبية، معظمهم من المناطق التي فاز بها ترامب في عام 2016.

ويعملون من أجل الحصول على مقاعد إضافية في معاقل الجمهوريين بما في ذلك نبراسكا، إنديانا وحتى ألاسكا ومونتانا، حيث يمكن للفائزين قلب الميزان في نزاع الهيئة الانتخابية.

ولانتزاع السيطرة، يحتاج الجمهوريون إلى الحصول على حوالي 20 مقعدا، لكن حتى قيادة الحزب الجمهوري في مجلس النواب قللت من فرصهم.
