وافق الكونغرس الأميركي، الاثنين، على حزمة مساعدات بقيمة 892 مليار دولار لمواجهة تداعيات فيروس كورونا ليلقي شريان حياة على اقتصاد البلاد المتضرر من الوباء، مع الحفاظ على تمويل الحكومة الاتحادية لعام آخر.

ومن المتوقع أن يوقع الرئيس دونالد ترامب قريبا على مشروع قانون حزمة المساعدات ليصبح قانونا.

وبعد أيام من المفاوضات الغاضبة، عمل كل من المجلسين التشريعيين لإقرار مشروع القانون الضخم، إذ وافق عليه مجلس النواب أولا وتبعه مجلس الشيوخ بعد عدة ساعات بموافقة الحزبين.

ويشمل مشروع قانون الإغاثة من الفيروس تقديم 600 دولار لمعظم الأميركيين، بالإضافة إلى مدفوعات إضافية لملايين الأشخاص الذين فقدوا عملهم أثناء الجائحة فضلا عن بعض المزايا التي من المقرر أن تنتهي، السبت.

وقالت رئيسة مجلس النواب، نانسي بيلوسي، وهي ديمقراطية إنها أيدت مشروع قانون الإغاثة من الفيروس رغم أنه لا يتضمن المساعدة المباشرة لحكومات الولايات والحكومات المحلية التي سعى الديمقراطيون للحصول عليها.

وقالت إنهم سيحاولون ذلك مرة أخرى العام المقبل بعد تولي الرئيس الديمقراطي المنتخب جو بايدن منصبه.
