ويشير موقع UCR News، إلى أن الحديث يدور حول الحيويات الإدياكارية (Ediacara biota)، وهي مجموعة من الكائنات الحية الأحفورية التي عاشت في قاع المحيط قبل حوالي 550 مليون سنة.

وقد درس خبراء متحف سميثسونيان الوطني للتاريخ الطبيعي آثار هذه الكائنات الحية. وتقول ماري دروزر، عالمة الأحياء القديمة بجامعة كاليفورنيا في ريفرسايد، “هذه المخلوقات غريبة ومختلفة بدرجة، بحيث يصعب تصنيفها ضمن أي فئة من فئات الكائنات الحية الحديثة”.

ومع ذلك تمكن الباحثون من اكتشاف وجود أعضاء آثارية في الجهاز العصبي، تنظمها نفس العناصر الجينية التي تستخدمها الحيوانات والإنسان.

ووفقا للباحثين، ” أظهرت نتائج التحاليل، أنه يحتمل أن يكون للحيويات الإدياكارية، استعداد وراثي لتطور متعدد الخلايا والعضلات والجهاز العصبي”.
