قال رئيس بلدية بيني في شرق الكونغو إن مسلحين حرروا حوالي 900 سجين بالبلدة في هجوم منسق خلال الساعات الأولى من صباح اليوم الثلاثاء، موجها أصابع الاتهام إلى جماعة إسلامية متشددة.

وأضاف رئيس البلدية، موديستي باكواناماها، أنه لم يتبق سوى 100 سجين من بين أكثر من ألف، بعد الهجوم المنسق على سجن كانجباي المركزي، وعلى معسكر الجيش الذي يحميه.

وتابع: “للأسف تمكن المهاجمون الذين جاؤوا بأعداد كبيرة من تحطيم البوابة بمعدات كهربائية… نعتقد أن هذا من فعل القوات الديمقراطية المتحالفة”.

والقوات الديمقراطية المتحالفة جماعة أوغندية مسلحة، تنشط في شرق الكونغو منذ التسعينات، وقتلت أكثر من ألف مدني منذ بداية عام 2019، وفق أرقام الأمم المتحدة، رغم الحملات العسكرية المتكررة التي تهدف للقضاء عليها.

ولم تعلن بعد أي جماعة مسؤوليتها عن الهجوم.
