الجيريان اكسبرس: أعلن الدوري الإنجليزي الممتاز لكرة القدم، الأربعاء، أن ماركوس راشفورد مهاجم مانشستر يونايتد سيصبح أصغر شخص يحصل على درجة الدكتوراة الفخرية من جامعة مانشستر، تقديرا لحملته لمساعدة الأطفال.

ونال راشفورد إشادة واسعة بعد نجاح حملة مهاجم منتخب إنجلترا لتوفير الوجبات الغذائية المدرسية للأطفال، بالرغم من توقف الدراسة في بريطانيا بسبب جائحة كورونا، مشيرا إلى أنها كانت مصدر دعم له في طفولته.

وسينضم اللاعب البالغ عمره 22 عاما إلى أسطورتي النادي أليكس فيرغسون وبوبي تشارلتون في نيل الدكتوراة الفخرية.

وقال راشفورد لموقع ناديه على الإنترنت “إنه يوم فخر لي ولعائلتي. عند النظر إلى الأسماء التي نالت هذا التقدير في الماضي أشعر بالتواضع”.

وأضاف “لا يزال الطريق طويلا لمكافحة فقر الأطفال في البلاد، لكن الحصول على هذا التقدير من مدينتي يعني أننا نمضي في المسار الصحيح وهذا يعني الكثير”.

وساعد راشفورد في جمع نحو 20 مليون جنيه استرليني (25.22 مليون دولار) مع مؤسسة فير شير لإمداد العائلات بالوجبات خلال جائحةكوفيد-19.
